how to prepare for Your Pet Photography Session
Once you book your session, here are some ideas to help the session run as smoothly as possible and to get the best results:
Start practising up on some training with your dog to reinforce their 'sits' and 'downs' on command while you take a few steps back from them.
Make sure your fur baby is well groomed prior to the session. A washed and brushed dog photographs so much better than one that isn't. Trim any long hair away from the eyes if you have a long haired breed.
Take your dog out for a walk or run prior to the session. A tired dog relaxes for the camera and listens much better than one that still has lots of energy to expend.
Bring your dog's favourite treats, toys or training tools so that you can catch their attention.
If you are bringing more than one dog to the session, please bring a friend with you to help keep one dog entertained while the other is having their portrait taken.
Expect that your dog may be uncooperative, especially in the first 15 minutes or so of the session. Have patience as even the most excited dogs will settle down eventually.
Many pet guardians become frustrated with their dog when they don't listen, but please don't let it worry you. Your dog will pick up on your emotions and you may end up with portraits of an anxious looking dog. If your dog refuses to sit it’s absolutely fine, standing images are great too.
Let us know if your dog has any behavioural concerns or physical issues ahead of time so that we can be well prepared for the session. This includes any food allergies. If your dog is reactive to other dogs then a quiet outdoor location will be required.
Most importantly just relax and be prepared for some fun for both you and your fur baby!
